The STAR Collaboration for Emergency Medicine Research AUSTRALIA

STAR is a collaboration of emergency medicine clinical researchers and laboratory scientists who undertake studies in toxicology, toxinology and anaphylaxis. Currently they coordinate a number of national multicentre studies including:

ASP the Australian Snakebite Project which is a cohort study of snake bites and envenoming from around Australia. It now includes a nest randomised controlled trial of fresh frozen plasma in snake bite coagulopathy.

RAVE II the Redback Antivenom Evaluation Study which is a randomised controlled trial of redback spider antivenom versus placebo.

EDA the Emergency Department Anaphylaxis Study which is an observational study of anaphylaxis in the emergency department.

DORM trial is a randomised controlled trial of Droperidol OR Midazolam in agitated patients in the emergency department.

MAST Modelling And Simulation in Toxicology is a ongoing project investigating the dose-concentration-effect relationship in overdose and acute poisoning. A particular focus of this project is drug-induced QT prolongation.
